Berceau des prophètes, première “qibla”(direction de prière) des Musulmans, la Mosquée Al Aqsa fait partie des lieux à voir au moins une fois dans sa vie.
Elle a une importance capitale et très symbolique dans le monde musulman : celle-ci fait partie des mosquées sacrées de l’Islam avec la Mecque et Médine.
Construite au VIIᵉ siècle, elle fait partie d’un ensemble de bâtiments religieux, dont le dôme du Rocher, avec lequel elle est souvent confondue.
L’ensemble du complexe délimité par les murs extérieurs, dont le “Mur des Lamentations” (lieu sacré des juifs) comprend des mosquées, des salles de prière, des cours et des monuments religieux.
D’une superficie de 14 hectares, la mosquée al-Aqsa englobe les dorures du dôme du Rocher, sans doute l’édifice le plus emblématique de Jérusalem, ainsi que la mosquée al-Qibli, toutes deux considérées comme sacrées.
L’immense site, également connu sous le nom de « Haram al-Charif » (« noble sanctuaire » en arabe) ou esplanade des Mosquées, comportait autrefois quinze portes permettant aux fidèles d’affluer sur l’esplanade depuis la vieille ville environnante de Jérusalem.
Cette sacralité est renforcée chez les Musulmans par le miracle divin relatant le voyage nocturne céleste (ou Ascension) du Prophète Mahomet appelé “Isra wal Mi’raj”, d’où son appellation “Al Aqsa” qui signifie “le plus éloigné”.
Affluents des quatre coins du Monde, et malgré les contraintes liées à la sécurité et au contrôle rude des autorités d’Israël, de nombreux visiteurs s’y rendent chaque année dans l’espoir d’y accomplir une prière et de pouvoir sentir de près la force identitaire de ce lieu unique, relaté dans le Saint Coran, objet de tant de discordes, mais qui semblent résister au temps et à toutes ces pressions extérieures qui durent depuis des siècles !
Quelle que soit votre raison de vouloir découvrir ce lieu mythique, sachez que ce voyage a un caractère très particulier. Les conditions de séjour, les déplacements internes ainsi que les visites, seront très souvent régies par les autorités occupantes.
